    Using keyboard to improve speed

For me it is important to navigate and work with an application really fast and having to switch from keyboard to mouse and back often slows things down.

Would it be possible to add a new column in a table by pressing Ctrl+Enter also when the table header (name) is selected?
This would allow to enter the name of a new table and add a the columns immediately without having to use the mouse or the down-arrow key.
Or is there already a way to do this without having to move my hands away from the keyboard?

And is there a way use the "Go To in Diagram" option of a Model Object without having to right-click?
Otherwise I would suggest to use Ctrl-G after selecting the object or something like that.

Both good suggestions!  Will add for next build.  Thanks!

Ok.  This has been added to 3015.  If you already downloaded 3015, please re-install.

    The Ctrl+Enter thing works fine.

The Ctrl+G thing does not really help me though.
What I was thinking of, was using Ctrl+G to jump to the object selected in Model Objects list. One can see (and select out of) more than 50 objects there at a time without having to scroll (instead of 8), and viewing the next object in the list simply requires moving down the mouse a little and pressing Ctrl+G again.

I see.  Yes, makes sense.  I think the existing functionality makes sense too - if you dont want to work from the Model Explorer.  Let me talk with development and see if we can add another accel for the ME based goto.

Re: Using keyboard to improve speed

The existing functionality can make sense too, but then I would change two things:

    • Increase the number of items in the dropdown. Show as much as possible.
    • Add keyboard support. Entering 'my_' selects MY_TABLE (or whatever you find).

Re: Using keyboard to improve speed

Agreed.  Do you think it would be confusing to use the same accelerator (Ctrl+G) and have it do one or the other based on the focus?  i.e. if the Model Explorer has the focus and the selected item is in the diagram, then just go to the item - otherwise pop up the go to dialog.

Re: Using keyboard to improve speed

I would use different accelerators. Someone using the Model Explorer might still want to use the new find option, even when the Model Explorer already has the focus. You could use Ctrl+F (Find) for the feature with the dropdown and Ctrl+G for Go To in Diagram.

Ctrl+F is already taken for View/Fullscreen.  We'll think of something...

Re: Using keyboard to improve speed

Please give this a try again in Build 3017.  We added Ctrl+G for Edit/Go To and Ctrl+T to go to the current selection in the active diagram.

Re: Using keyboard to improve speed

Great work, now I like both options!

Two small things concerning keyboard usage in "Go To":

    • does not seem to support underscores "_"
    • selects next entry even if current fits, so if I got tables TEST_A, TEST_B and TEST_C, and I type "test_a", TEST_C will be selected

Re: Using keyboard to improve speed

Underscores should be working.  Please check again with the latest...  MR uses a timer to decide when you are continuing a prefix that it should match or whether you are starting a new match (restarts if you dont type for a second).  Plus it will always go to at least the next item (with wrapping), since matching the item you are currently on is almost certainly not what you want to find.

Re: Using keyboard to improve speed

Sorry, underscores (_) do not seem to work yet.

I would not have done the "select next item" thing, but since jumping back to the best matching entry seems to work now, it's OK.

Right.  This will be fixed in the next build (Build 3024).  Thanks.

Re: Using keyboard to improve speed

    Another minor request:
On the second screen of Generate to Database (Schema Script Generating...) the Back-button gets the focus initially, but I think it should go to the Next-button.

Hope I'm not annyoing you with all these peanuts, but I really believe that they make a difference.
